This is the chorus to the very first song of the very first Phish show I went to. Boise State University Pavillion - Boise, Idaho. September 14th, 1999. What a newbie I was.

Imagine your first time in the parking lot; how cool and overwhelming it was. You heard rumors and maybe seen a couple pictures of it, but to discover it for the first time is almost too much. Then, into the venue you go, chuckling at the "mooing" going on. Past check point after check point, search after search until, yes, you see it...you're inside!!! You make your way to the floor and up near the stage and settle in. At this point, you talk to the folks around you and discuss what might be played tonight.

Then, someone asks you the question, "So, like, how many shows you seen?" How do you respond? What might you tell this person who you know, without asking him, has been to shows when you could buy Trey a beer after the set. For some reason, though, you realize you can't lie to this person. It would ruin the night for you, especially when you think you will be dancing next to him for the next three hours.

"This is my first," you declare. It's like telling a lover you are a virgin right before you are about to do it. How will they react? Will there be laughing involved? What happens when the band plays a song you don't know? Will HE know!?

"Oh! You're in for something special! Why don't we get you a better spot?" He leads the way to the front of the stage and tells everyone that this is your first show. He is like Moses, parting the water.

When you get there, he has a huge smile on his face and says, "You'll enjoy it from here. See if Trey will smile at you." With that, he's gone and you never see him again.

All of a sudden, the lights go down...a collective gasp of air makes the entire room silent for one brief moment in time until it is forced out in its new form - screams! And there they are. You see your heroes for the first time. And so the journey begins...
