I've been listening to Phish for about five years now since finding a tape of some show in my phriend's backpack. After listening to the tape over and over again, i was hooked.  I would go nuts at the prospect of getting a new tape, and i would go to great lengths to hear a show (but that's another story). 

Anyway, about two years ago, i was at a music and drama camp in Indiana.  I was sitting in my room, just hangin with some of my friends when i heard a Phish tape playing loudly in the dorm's lobby, just down the hallway. Now, while there are a lot of cool kids at this camp, there aren't that many who would have the resources to pop in some show out of nowhere. So i listened for a second, just to be sure. 

Sure enough, a show, this was DEFINITELY Phish, and it sounded like they were rippin it. That was all i needed to hear. I jumped off the bed in the middle of some story and determinately ran out of my room, down the hallway towards the lobby... the sounds of phatness growing louder in my ears. Ooooh, this was going to be good. 

Taking a final leap, i burst through the doors of the lobby and searched around for the stereo that was operating as catalyst for the beautiful groove. I soon noticed that, although there was a stereo, it wasn't a Phish show that was playing. The stereo was set on a spanish radio station that wasn't coming in well. 

Across the room, a small huddle of high school girls were laughing about something; there was a metronome ticking wildly on a piano bench, and a small child was sitting at the lobby organ, happily smacking the plastic keys with the blissful tonal ignorance of youth.  I was shocked. It was so perfect. i closed my eyes and just listened, savoring every beautiful note of this seemingly random moment. 

I smiled and started walking back towards my room. There hadn't been a show playing in the lobby, but it was Phish.
