PholkTales: Random Acts of Kindness
I was so excited. I was getting a new truck and it was time to get plates for it. I normally think that vanity plates are cheesy, but if I could score "Phish" or "Phan", I would be a happy man.

As I entered the DMV, my pulse quickened. My number was called, and I made my way forward. I asked for "Phish", but it was already taken. I asked for "Phan", but it too was taken. I began to sweat. I hadn't made a backup plan. I couldn't leave without completing my mission. Luckily, I was able to think fast on my feet, and requested "Phans". They had it!

About a week later, it showed up in the mail. It was beautiful! I ran outside, and screwed it on my truck. I was so pumped! I drove around for the next couple of weeks, anticipating the first thumbs up or nod from another phan. But it never happened. I drove the truck to a Trey show, and nothing. A second Trey show. A Pork Tornado Show. It's been about two years, and I haven't got a single wink or wave or anything. Is they jam band scene dead in Michigan? Was I not accepted by the community? What was it? I slowly lost faith.

Then, one night, I come out of the bar and find something underneath my windshield wiper. It's a note, and some discs. I read the note. Apparently somebody had seen my plate and the stickers on my truck, and left me the entire moe. show from Bonnaroo. The note said that when they saw the truck, they had to hook me up. They left me their e mail address, and told me that if I wanted any more shows, to let them know. I couldn't believe it. It was probably one of the single coolest things that anyone has done for me.

The next day, I took the letter to my buddy's house to show it to him. We went out, and I left the letter at his place. My friend, being a total idiot, throws the letter out. I felt horrible. This person totally goes out of their way to hook me up, and I can't even tell them thanks. They probably think I'm this total ass! If anybody knows who this masked gift-giver is, put them in touch with me. I live in the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor area if it helps.

Thanks-
Cory
