PholkTales: Random Acts of Kindness
My bro's birthday was on Sept. 23rd, so we decided to head up to Chi-town for the show. What was great about this experience mainly had to do with the people I encountered... the show was terrific otherwise. You know you are in for a great evening when all of the kids you are with are smiling bigger than the Buddha's belly.

Well, not only did the greatness start the moment I embraced my birthday kid and his cuz as they picked me up, it also began the moment we entered the show. We all stub down to chill together.  I, being the sober one (I've given up drugs at shows. Sobriety is so beautiful), worked the magic of getting us all together. We find ourselves in a nice little cozy of a spot on Page's side, when suddenly these other kids came and walked through our space.

Well there was nowhere else for them to go, so the space became very cramped. You know when you are dancin' and you move so that someone can pass through, but they in turn take your space. That is what happened. Either way, love was in the air, so I darted out to the aisle to get my groove on.  I thought I'd found my space; one whole step was mine. Then,  someone quickly comes up and stands right in the middle of my plush little lotus bud. He lights up a cigarette and just stands there.

Man, two spots lost in the matter of one song. Oh well. So, I head up to the entrance of the section, only to find this sparkling smile coming from this usher. I take a deep breath and approach him. I tell him that I'm gonna dance here 'cause everyone keeps takin' my spot. He looks at me with a confused look, so I tell him to just watch me get out of everyone's way as I bounce around. He agrees, and is quickly pleased with the dance.

I run down and grab my kids to join me. The man has no problem with it, and actually seemed to enjoy our presence. By the second set, and after getting everyone in the hallway to sing happy birthday to my spun out bro, a mass of kids came to the spot and were all joining in. The usher realized he was taking up our space, so he stood outside of the curtain.  I, in turn, periodically peeked my head out to give him a big ole' smile, which he would respond back with a laugh.

After the show was over, he came up to me and said, "it is good to see the spirit of God in people again." I told him that consciously enjoying yourself is essential to living a peaceful and fulfilling life. I try to live by these words everyday, and everyone else should. So, there are good people that work the venues. You just have to kick the same energy that you would have them give you. (sound familiar??) Love ya all.
