PholkTales: Phishy Coincidences
Four years ago, I was in a talent show playing piano as a senior at my high school, and I was really excited to get to sing this one girl a song or two in front of a lot of people.  I wasn't sure what I was going to play, but I had a bunch of tunes under my fingers, so I wasn't worried.  This girl (who was my best friend) and I were both really into Phish and had good memories of dancing around, driving around, running around (the whole bit) while jamming to Phish, so I decided to play her Waste.

And man it was awesome, it was so fun, and she loved it and it was a moment we both cherish.  Waste kind of became "our song" (wow, even sappier when read aloud).  But not 2 months after the talent show, which I placed second in, I was going to college, and my girl was sticking behind in high school.

It wasn't like things got bad, we were just obviously at different points.  It was a big testing period for both of us, and before I left we decided to make things between us less serious, which hurt us both very much but was the only way to be fair to each of our ambitions.

And man, just like in "Tangled up in Blue," I saw a lot of women but she never escaped my mind.  And after 3 years and some changes, we found our way back together again last summer, and what a summer it was, you know?

All this time she had never been to see Phish, and with our crazy schedules, we were both able to go to the third night of the Deer Creek run (7/23/03) and oh we boogied down, put our weight on it: we cut a rug and didn't stop there.

Sick setlist, great energy, and the icing on the cake: Waste encore.  Just having her there, and the look in her eyes, and the look i must of had in mine... mmm... you just know it when you see it.
