PholkTales: Phishy Coincidences
My girlfriend Trish and I were tripping the second day of the Clifford Ball. She had never tripped before but she was really enjoying it, as was I. We had found the painting stand in the venue, where someone associated with the band had brought tons of tempura paint, paint brushes and canvases free for anyone who wished to express themselves.

Before the acid kicked in, we painted silly landscapes, but after we started tripping our paintings became swirling, complex pieces of psychedelic art. People were standing around watching us paint in amazement. Fellow psychonauts were especially tranfixed on our creations.

After some time, we became bored with painting the canvases and set out to beautify the world with our paint and new found creativity. After painting some people who wanted some body paintings, and after we'd run out of tempura paint, we happened upon gallons upon gallons (perhaps 50 gallons) of house paint being stored just inside of the large temporary surrounding wall encompassing the venue. Evidently, this was the extra paint that was used to paint the small-scale pretend town that was in the venue.

We had hit the motherload! Now we could really express ourselves. With extreme excitement and passion we opened up some pant cans, most of which were partially used, and were throwing different colors on the plywood wall and on anything in the vicinity. We were having the time of our lives, paint all over us and everything else, when two security guys showed up and stood looking at our mess with disappointment.

Surprised and suddenly reminded that this may not be something that others would approve of, we stopped and stood looking at the security guys, waiting for their reaction. The moment of extreme tension was broken when one of the security guards who was looking at our painting looked at us and said, "I think it needs more blue." He was right, and so we added more blue to the rather abstract painting on the wall.

After we finished, we put our hand prints on the wall next to each other as a signature for our masterpiece.

Three years later, Trish and I, who are by now happily married, were once again tripping at the great Owego show. After dancing until we were exhausted, we decided to get out of the crowd and and take a break. Once outside, we walked around the venue wall and sat down next to it using the wall as back rest. After sitting there talking and resting for while, we heard a great tune and decided to go back into the venue and join the fun.

I got up first, and facing the wall, I reached down to help Trish up. It was then that I noticed, to my amazement, that we had been leaning on a plywood panel that had the painting we created three years earlier, it even had our hand prints that we had used to sign the painting. Just to make sure that what we were seeing was real, we put our hands onto hand prints and simultaneously said...WHOA! That's awesome!
