PholkTales: Phishy Coincidences
October 99 rolled around and Phish was playing in Albany (my birthplace), but I had no tickets. I tried message boards, chat rooms, RMP, but had no luck. A friend of mine was going on the second night, and so I decided to try my luck at scoring a ticket before the show.

The night before I went to a Fair with some friends and had one of those nights when everything seemed perfect with the world. I remember walking around the fair thinking how "the circus WAS the place for me," and for a minute or two I knew I was going to get a ticket.  So, Brian (my friend) and I got up nice and early to make the drive from school to Albany to meet up with some friends.

We did the usual pre-show activities and headed for the lots at about 3. There were a few of us looking for tickets that day, so I felt a little better knowing that I wasn't alone in my search, but I was a bit nervous that I might get shut out. Everyone in Albany that day was looking for a ticket (it was worse this year though), and sometimes I got frustrated as my pleas of "cash or trade for your extra" seemingly fell on deaf ears. And, by 6:30, everyone but me and one kid we were with had scored tickets. People were very nice that day, wishing me good luck, telling me to smile, offering hugs. All I wanted was to get in.

After hitting the back lots under the bridge one more time, we were standing directly across the street from the Knick when some guy came up to me with a sign and said "Here, this sign has gotten 8 people tickets over the past two nights, and now its yours." I was like "Yeah, O.K buddy" but stuck the sign in the air and continued walking.

Twenty minutes later, a guy came up to me with a ticket for sale. Woohoo!!! I passed the sign to the other kid we were with who was still looking and he got one 5 seconds later. Our friend Sara turned around and gave the sign to a random girl who was looking and she got a ticket no more than 30 seconds later, and beat the sign on down the line. Mission accomplished and with a story taboot.

P.S - Kick ass Stash and YEM in the show, along with my first Vultures. All praise the sign!
