I left Massachusetts and moved west to the happening community of Berkley, California, where I found myself homeless and living in People's Park. The kind brothers and sisters I met there instantly became like a phamily to me. We all shared one thing. We were homeless (most by choice).

Before making the move, I had this recurring dream where friends and family would tell me, and I remember the last words only, "...maybe it's your destiny to go to California."

This one rainy day, I was just hanging out, pan handling in front of a head shop when I saw one of the most beautiful women I had ever seen enter the shop. She stood about 5'6 and had golden hair about shoulder length, smooth fair skin, and eyes that radiated kindness. She did not look homeless at all, but embodied rather, the collegiate earthy look and carried a yellow rose. I remember thinking of her and losing concentration of what I was doing. She glanced in my direction then walked into the store. I was still in a daze.

When she walked out, I complimented her on the beautiful rose she was carrying, hoping to make small talk. She stopped and offered me the magnificent flower, which I graciously accepted, and she asked my name. I said, "Paul, what's yours?"  She replied, "Destiny," shined her beautiful smile at me, turned, and was gone before I could mutter another word.

That is the day I met my Destiny, and the yellow rose still sits atop my dash in my VW jetta.
