PholkTales: Phishy Coincidences
When I was in college, three friends and I decided to go to the New Orleans Jazz Festival. While it was my 20th(?) show, it was the first time that I had ever dropped Lucy (in the Sky with Diamonds). Needless to say, I had a VERY intense show - almost a religious experience. It was my friend JP's birthday and the fairgrounds were packed with people making the 95 degree weather feel more like 125 degrees - it was pretty hot.

During the encore, the sky started to get dark. In my state of mind, I hadn't noticed that a storm had moved in. During Cavern, it started to sprinkle. I'm not sure if they were really doing this or if it was just me, but I swear they were jamming with the rain - as the rain started to come down harder, the band seemed to be jamming with it.

Because we were so hot, the rain felt great! At the end of Cavern (and the show), when the music goes "bah bah bah bah.... bahhhhhhh" the sky - on the last bahhhhhhhhhh - opened up and rain just poured onto us. I mean buckets. The timing was so perfect and it felt so good on my sunburn that all I could do was cry. I looked over at JP and he was also crying. It was a beautiful moment.

Four and a half years later, at the next to last Shoreline show with Bobby Weir, I was on the lawn for setbreak and looking behind me, I see JP sitting 10 yards away! This was the second show I got to see with him...
