PholkTales: Phishy Coincidences
I was excited to hear that Trey was bringing his solo
tour through Richmond in the year 2001 for two
reasons: the venue is a beautiful structure, and that
is where I reside. So, it worked out great from the
get-go. Also, I had scored orchestra section seats for
myself and my friend Joel, so we were like eight rows
from the stage, on Trey's side. How convenient.

The night started off with a good first set and a lot
of variety in music, which has been a good thing on
this tour, seeing Trey do what he can do with a guitar.  Anyway, to get on to the good stuff, I go back to my seat during set break, but somebody was in them, so I
decided to sit on the same row, while Joel went to find
his brother and our friend Vic.

While that was occurring, a man and woman (some older pholks) came over and sat next to me. I noticed that they had backstage passes, but really thought nothing of it. I ended up talking to the lady for most of the set break. You know, just normal conversation at the show, like, are you
enjoying it, where are you from, and talked about
how we both enjoy seeing Trey in small venues, relaxed,
and having fun.

So, Joel arrives at the seats with his brother and Vic, and the lady mentions that they cannot sit there b/c she is saving the seats for someone. I mentioned that we would just move to our seats, and her husband mentioned that our tickets are fake. I told him that we had purchased them in Richmond, straight from Ticketmaster, so on, and so on.

Anyway, to get straight to it, I said it was okay b/c we would be up and grooving during the second set, and the lady told me it was for a good cause b/c the seats we were in were for Trey's sister. To this I responded with a confused, "excuse me."

It turns out that I had been having a casual conversation
with Trey's mom during the set break, as well as his
father, and got to see his sister, and family friends as well. Really great people. They were jammin' the rest of the show two rows behind us. At the end of a shocking second set I told them bye, and that it was nice talking to them, and to thank their son, and the band, and tell them hello from the phans.

Incredible night on the home turf!
