PholkTales: Odd Phans
I didn’t really plan on going to IT.  Then, the last week of July, I ran into an old high school friend I hadn’t seen in AGES.  After talking Alpine for a few minutes, he said he was going up to Maine with a bunch of kids from school...  “yeah, you should come!”  Sure, sure.  My boss would never give me the time off, the festival was in a week and a half, and besides, I live in Northern Michigan, not exactly a hop, skip and a jump away.

Fast forward two weeks to me driving the red eye shift through Canada on the way to Limestone with my friend, plus two other guys I’ve never met in my life but who seem okay in the rearview mirror, fast asleep and drooling.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, it turns out the guys I went with rocked.  After the second night (we were front row and got a VIP pizza delivery from some kind strangers, but that’s another story), my new friends and I danced on the runway, felt the vibes, and chilled at our campsite ‘til dawn.  As the sky turned rosy, we noticed a guy passed out in a camping chair facing us, about 15 feet away.  Now, what caught my attention was that this guy was sitting bolt upright, knees akimbo, head back, mouth open... not the most comfortable sleeping position, but he was OUT cold.

And then, suddenly, he began to move.  As we stared in utter disbelief, his entire torso FELL forward until his forehead rested on his knees and his arms hung dead to the ground (still seated).  What ensued I cannot to this day recall without laughing my ass off.  He proceeded to roll his upper body in large haphazard circles, up, left, down, right, half up, down, up, down, right, arms flopping everywhere... you get the idea.  He did this for at least half an hour, silently and fast asleep, while the three of us laughed until tears streamed down our faces and we gasped for breath...

That was by far the funniest thing I have ever seen, at a show or otherwise.  I am SO glad I made it to Limestone; besides the magical music and new phriends, I got to see this crazy bastard dance in his chair, and that alone was worth the drive.
