Anyway, as we found our very close spot on Les' (left) side about 3 deep, we settled in for a fun time. This was the same kinda spot we had for the 1st night of Allstate in October 2000 so we knew it would be sweet. Well, this is where the "odd phan" comes into play. This guy was laying down right in front of me not talking to anyone. He would stare into the unknown, sometimes at my wife, and then close his eyes and go bye-bye. He did this before the opening act, and continued to do it while they played. 

It really sucked because people would think there was a great open spot to watch the show and come over, then they would trip on this dude, and I or my wife would have to catch them. This happened the whole time the New Orleans Klezmer All-stars played! Then between sets this dude still was trying to sleep or meditate or keep himself from going insane, hell whatever, and would scream at people for stepping on him! 

So when Oysterhead comes on I'm groovin' for like 1 minute when this explosion of rage and wildness bursts out in front of me and my wife. It's the sleeping giant! And he's awake! This guy is wailing and flailing his arms and body. His head is thrashing all over! He begins to slam into these two guys next to me who are in a state of shock and then starts to slam into my wife! Now, I'm not violent, but I am very protective of me wife, so I am about to thrash this guy on the spot. My wife sees the inevitable and pushes the guy. The other guys next to me grab him to tell him to chill, and he gives them this devil look from the "Exorcist". So we just bailed. 

We actually found a much better spot with tons of dancing space and some real cool dudes next to us. Thanks Chris! I wonder what that guy was on, and what happened to him. There is no way he could have kept up the fury for too long. He will go down in history for me as the most whacked out phan I have ever seen, and hopefully never see again!
