PholkTales: Near Catastrophes
So a couple of friends and I were making the trip from Washington, DC, where we go to school, to just outside of Baltimore to see Dark Star Orchestra at the Recher Theatre in Townson, MD. We were all real psyched for the show and had pre-gamed all the way there with some choice dead shows.

When we got to the theatre, though, tons of folks were stranded outside without tickets. The show had been sold out for a week, and we didn't have tickets! So we did what every desperate fan does, we put a finger up and started searching for other ways into the venue. We walked for about a half an hour with no luck.

Then one of my buddies went to the roll call desk, where people were picking up their tickets they ordered from ticketmaster. Instead of giving them ticketmaster tix, they were just handing out little red, carnival style tix to get from the roll call desk to the door. So, in true Mentos commercial fashion, we made the best of the situation by running to the nearest Staples and purchasing a roll of the exact same tickets.

We, along with a couple other stranded fans, got into the show for next to nothing, and what a great performance it was. IF you get a chance check out the Dead setlist from 6/9/73, the show was nearly 4 hours long and to think we almost missed it... Bless those little red tickets...
