PholkTales: Near Catastrophes

On a Thursday afternoon near the end of the first semester of my sophomore year at school, some phriends and i were sitting around in Boulder when we realized that there were two phish shows that weekend in Cincinnati. Being in Colorado, where it's often tough to catch a show, we decided it would be great fun to hit the road, and we thought we could make it back in time for school on Monday... so fuck, why not?

Without consulting a map, we piled five heads into a car and started heading east on 70. We made some calls and all ordered tickets for the first night, but Saturday night was sold out.  After about 12 hours of driving, and being only about half-way to Cincinnati, we realized that we maybe should have planned this a little better, but we all agreed that it was way too late to turn around.  We were going to see both of those shows, dammit.

We finally arrive exactly 23 hours after we left boulder, and it was about 2 hours before show time. We all got in and had a great time, rockin show.

We were all a little worried about the second night, and we made a pact that unless we could get five tickets, we were all heading back to Colorado that night. I was determined to see this show, though finding one ticket at a sold-out show is tough, let alone five. We hit the lots early, and things were not looking good.

I was seeing tons of people looking for tickets, and this was not very encouraging. We decided to split up, and I was going around telling our story of being far from home with no tickets, etc, to everyone I saw...  Amazingly, people began to respond. First i got one ticket, then another.

One guy I saw paid no attention to me until he heard me say I was from Colorado, and then he had a ticket for me all of a sudden. Before you know it we were up to four tickets, but for any of us to go, we needed all five. I found some teenage punk kids who had an extra that they were trying to trade for acid, and wouldn't take cash, even the large sum I offered.

Knowing that these kids had an extra, there was no way I was letting them get away. These fucking kids were standing between me and a phish show, and that was unacceptable. I finally harassed the ticket out of those damn kids, and told them if they wanted acid to buy it with cash, and hook a brotha up! They did, the show rocked, and we made it back to Boulder late Sunday evening, with enough time to tell a great story to the dude sitting next to me in my class on Monday mooring.

Thanx to all those kind people for hooking me and my friends up. Two morals to this story:1) if someone really needs an extra, you should hook 'em up 2)Phish, come to colorado more often, goddammit, so that I don't have to do stupid shit like this to see a show for christsake! (trey, the fillmore is waiting for you!)

Peace,love,
Taylor
