The first set was going great, as our special pre-show treat was beginning to kick in . Mid set the band whipped into a rousing version of 'Funkybitch' that was going strong, until suddenly and unexpectedly the entire venue became silent. The oddest part of this silence was that the band continued to play as if nothing at all had happened. In a state of panic and fear which was most likely brought about by our pre-show indulgence, I turned to my friend and began to yell, "I'm, deaf, I'm deaf" over and over again."

Completely freaking out at this point, I began to clutch the sides of my head and repeat the same phrase over and over. Clutching me by my shoulders my friend asked me, "Dude, can you hear what I'm saying? Can you hear what you're saying?" My answers to both of these inquiries was yes, at which point my buddy informed me that I obviously wasn't deaf. Logically.

In my altered state I was under the impression that since the band was still playing and I couldn't hear, my hearing capacity was the problem rather that difficulties with the PA system, which ended up being the culprit in this case. Wow. Obviously my goofy display made an impression on others in our section as well, because the next night when we ran into some pholks who had been sitting a couple of rows behind us, they were prompt in asking me whether or not I was alright from the night before. They thought I had been the victim of some sort of breakdown. Actually, I just ate too much acid.
