PholkTales: Miscellaneous
It was my birthday in my birth town of Houston, Texas, 9-25-99. I was in the parking lot all day with my good buddie Chris. This was his second Phish show. His first was the night before at Southpark Meadows. We were in the parking lot all day, tossing a frisbee and drinking Jim Beam out of the bottle.

As show time grew near I began to look for psychadelics. I scored fungus off a hippie chic (I love 'em--the hippie chics, that is) and I was set to go. On the way to the pavilion a dude walked by, and I couldn't pass up his offer of some "mellow" gel tabs. This was the ultimate double dipping, and it went great with the mood I was already in to begin with.

I'll make a long story short to avoid this tale sounding like a typical tripping story...Chris and I were right-center in the pavilion. I was hallucinating heavily throughout the entire second set. Sometime around 2001 (I think) the clouds caught my eye. This is hard to explain in words, but the clouds were huge, and they formed the shape of a tribal-looking man sitting on another cloud, smoking a pipe that was as long as the horizon. Coming out the end of his pipe was another cloud.

Anyway, He was bouncing his head to the beat of the funk coming from the stage. I was captivated and watched him the rest of the entire set (that would be 2001>Frankenstein, Julius, and Character Zero encore). I had no idea of time and space. At the end of the show, on the way to Whataburger, Chris asked, "what in the hell were you staring at during the second set?  You never looked at the stage." At that time, I realized I had seen the man, Mulcahey. Verrrrrrry phishy. It's so stupendous living in this tube...Thanks, boys.
