PholkTales: Miscellaneous
A group of my friends managed to book a room at the Marriott Hotel in Times Square over New Year's 1999-2000. So after the show, the extended group (which included myself) migrated to the hotel to check it out, regroup, do whatever before the eventual migration back to the Village where some of us were staying.

If you've never been to this hotel try to picture... the lobby at the first floor. This building is roundish in shape. If you look straight up, a columnar elevator cluster of about 6 elevators in all runs straight up the center. Around this column is open air with balconies all around the outside of this indoor atrium, where the doors to the actual rooms are located. You can see all the levels from the elevator which goes up probably 80 floors.

One of these levels was a lounge type area. There were plants and sofas, but no people because of the hour, although the hotel itself was quite busy with guests going to and from their rooms. Looking for adventure, we got off the elevator at one of these lounges. After we watched people going up and down the elevators, my creative gear kicked on.  Four people make the capitol 'I', five make the capitol 'H,' and two for the exclamation point, and we spelled out 'HI!" on the floor. This was great.

After ten minutes or so of waving to people on the elevators, word spread to their roommates, and soon people were hanging on the balconies waving, taking pictures, this was great. Inevitably, security became involved. They evicted several of us for trespassing. My friends who were actually staying there got a lot of shit and almost thrown out.

The trip down the elevator included 3 trippin heads and a stern NY security cop. A little awkward. Until someone started cracking up... probably not the cop at first, but when the reality of the situation settled in, we all were laughing, the cop included.
