PholkTales: Encounters with the Band
I went to see Phish at Shepherd's Bush Empire on 2/13/97 in London, UK.  Lucky for me, I was studying abroad at the time. A few of us went down early to get in line so that we could get as close to the stage as possible. Our plan worked, and when we finally got inside there were only a few other people in the venue.

We immediately got right up to the railing and absolutely did not move the entire rest of the night. I couldn't even use the bathroom because I did not want to lose my spot.

We were in the very front during the whole show. It was amazing to be so close, especially in such a small venue where the stage doesn't sit that high from the ground. I was positioned in front of Page. The entire show he kept making eye contact with us and laughing and smiling and winking, etc...

So, at intermission we decide to try and get Page's autograph. We devise a plan so that when Page walks to his piano, I will jump up and down frantically to get his attention while my friend holds out a piece of paper which he wrote , "You're amazing Page!"

Page walks towards his piano for the second set and I follow through with our plan. Since we are so close, Page sees us and walks right up to us.  He then grabs the piece of paper and takes it to his piano. He begins to write something and throws it back at us. He wrote , "thanks, Page McConnell."

That made our night! Not only did that show rage with a bunch of new songs, but we were able to be so close and get a band member's autograph during a show.

I love this site because I have been dying to tell that story to those that understand.
