PholkTales: Encounters With the Band
Ever since 'Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?' came out, my dad has totally gotten into bluegrass. He found out about Down from the Mountain (musicians from the soundtrack) coming to Radio City at the end of January, and got tickets for himself, my best friend Marie, and me.

So, the day of the show Marie and I get on the train to meet my dad and head down from the mountain. While on the train, I informed Marie that Mike would be there. I was doubtful that he'd be on stage, but I knew he wouldn't be able to keep his banjo pickin' self away.

We get to Radio City, and as the guy is taking my ticket, Marie starts freaking out. I look, and there's Mike hanging out right next to the door like he's waiting for us to arrive. Knowing he was there made me happy, and of course we were hoping he might pop on stage with Union Station.

Unfortunately, he didn't, and the lovely Alison Krauss was sick and did not sing (she fiddled her ass off, instead!), but the Peasall girls sang 'I'll Fly Away,' which was definitely a highlight of the evening (even better than Mike being exactly where i said he would!).
