PholkTales: Encounters With the Band
So, my friend and I went to Europe to see Phish in France and Amsterdam. We flew into the 'Dam, then took the train through Belgium into France. The show was at a small club called the L'Aeronef, which was interestingly located inside a shopping mall (later shows in Japan would prove this to be not uncommon in small club Phish shows). Before the show, we loaded up on beer, because we weren't sure as to the sacraments to be divulged inside.

So anyway, we had quite a few delicious beers at a friendly pub in Lil'le, (who says all French are rude?), and you know those European brews are good.

So then we arrived at the club, and had a couple "whit beers". I guess that means "white beers". Then we met a couple of German Heads, who proceeded to buy us more white beers. Those Europeans are nice! They don't even know you, and they buy you beer! No such culture in the States ,eh. We reciprocated; cultural education on the fly.

So after a while I was a bit tipsy. Then, who walks by, in the small bar attached to the club, but Mike. Now I was a bit drunk, and kind of slapped him on the back, and said, "Hi Mike! We came all the way from Minnesota to see you!" He just kind of mumbled something, and walked on. In a friendly way, though.

And in the club inside there must've been not 200 people. They kicked out the best DWD and Antelope I've ever heard; how great is a band that is willing to play such a great show to 200 people when they clearly could make so much more money playing a stadium?

Well, lessons learned... it is worth the effort to go see Phish in a foreign land where they play their hearts out to a small crowd. And don't expect a great reception from a member of Phish when you're pissed on booze.
