PholkTales: 8/14/02 - Phish Returns
Wednesday, August 14th...

Today is a day like no other...

We assembled ourselves as best we could after another round of madness in the respective workplaces and set ourselves due West down Belmont Avenue to band practice. Armed with a 12-pack of our trusty PBRs and several hits each off of the naked nun hookah, we took our bi-weekly refuge in the damp and musty cavern that is, of course, the practice spot.

I unsheathed my '96 Strat from its road-weary gig bag and set off again on the asinine escapade that is---> TUNING. Somewhere between D and G, that inexplicable realm of pitchlessness, Mike asks, "Did Pete tell you about Madison Square Garden?"

Pete has told me nothing of it, yet I know as well as you all what this Madison Square Garden talk is all about. I look up to Mike and he confirms what is now rapidly burning through my psyche...

PHISH RETURNS

This is the day that we all have been anxiously awaiting, methodically trudging through the grind, day in day out, planning and contriving this day, ready for anything, but heinously unprepared for it when it comes. And there I was, guitar in hand, amp idly feeding back, realizing, finally, that the Antelope would run again.

Now begins the mad dash to the tickets, as we will converge like rabid wolves on that feeding pile that is ultimately too small to satiate us all but will nevertheless coax us all from our various places of unrest to culminate in a shattering climax of RING RING RING at approximately 6 PM (EST) on Thursday September the 5th.

Please note all requests cannot possibly be filled.

As this new day has come upon me, I am left wondering out loud where the funds will come from to make this trek from Chicago to New York to Virginia to where ever else, but I know as well as you all that it does not matter. I know as well as you all that no matter the price, no matter the sacrifice, the ends will be better than the means. I know as well as you all that when the lights go down and the band takes the stage, there will be approximately no other place on the face of this Earth that any of us would rather be.

And that's the way it should be.

See you all in New York!!!

- Chris
